Cows Lying Down.
Paul Davison, when he was 3 years old, stood on a chair at, 28 Ullswater Road, to put records onto the turntable. His big sister was mad about pop music and bought records by the truck-load every week but had no way of getting the 45s and 33 1/3 vinyls onto the radiogram as Geraldine was wheelchair bound and could not reach that high. When Paul stepped up to do this job the house became full of wonderful music.
Paul learned from these great songs and found out about the world as it all seemed to be there in beautiful sounds and stories. He thought that the activity of song writing must be what all humans did and joined in composing with words and simple tunes , playing a little white and orange guitar which had transfers of John, Paul, Ringo and George too. Words and tunes became his way of experiencing and navigating the world.
Paul created Cows Lying Down to expand the journey of these songs, which he has performed regularly as a solo artist throughout his life, and has attracted fellow musicians to join something original, meaningful and live too.
‘I don’t create in a particular genre template. I believe in letting the song emerge from the mood and feeling of the narrative and will not try to straight jacket an idea into a particular style. Just let the truth find its own way.'
Joining Paul for recent live shows and the 4th album, ‘Subbuteo number 9’ is Alan Burn -Bass, John Musgrove-drums, and Ian Dude -guitar, Debbie Baker -Keyboards and Tony Cartwright -Spirit. ‘More of a family than just a group of performing musicians and we have loved meeting the audiences who have come to see us.’
